Consequences of man's footprint on nature do not only affect individuals or countries. All attitudes and approaches are now transforming the entire global system, and in doing so, are creating lasting consequences for each of us.
2021 was an important year in which we saw how web3 technologies could be used in the context of social impact. But by the first quarter of 2022, we have seen that there are many more possibilities. Recent developments such as crypto philantrophy, NFTs focused on social and environmental impact, the growth of KlimaDAO and the spread of the decentralized science (DeSci) movement and the delivery of aid via crypto to those affected by the war in Ukraine have completely transformed impact and benefit oriented work.
All these showed us that emerging technologies such as blockchain or NFT; It can enable to develop different solutions while addressing social and environmental problems in various fields such as youth, climate change and humanitarian aid. Investments in these technologies and the surrounding entrepreneurial ecosystem have been revived by the potential of Web3 to solve our world's problems. In line with this potential, for instance, UNICEF Venture Fund has created a program focused on making equity-free crypto currency investments in non-profit technology startups to provide early-stage seed funding and mentorship. The ReFi movement has also demonstrated that web3, with its impact on finance and social issues, could be another way to solve global problems.
ReFi (regenerative finance) is a movement that embraces a new method of enabling both financial returns and positive change.
So, here money goes beyond circularity and sustainability as a means (and indeed as a good tool), not as an end. With the goal of a new economy, ReFi has the opportunity to bring about change through an integrative approach to regenerating existing resources and the system.
Crises and conflicts all over the world necessitate a kind of paradigm shift on a global scale. ReFi Turkiye is looking for an answer to this and this is where the theory of change comes in. So what does the "theory of change" mean? We can see the theory of change as a fundamental tool for measuring social impact. As Paul Brest describes, it can be explained as "the empirical basis behind any social intervention". And in its simpler terms:
The Theory of Change is the manifestation of a project or process that produces effects by relating its goals and how change is created while achieving these goals.

So How Will We Create Change?
We open up a space to rethink the foundation and virtues of today's economy in which the youth and institutions are included. Thus, we aim to develop a participatory and collective impact-oriented perspective.
We create mechanisms that allow those who are thought about finance, technology and social impact to learn and produce together. In this way, we are closing the leading gap in the sector.
As ReFi Turkiye, we believe that in order to ensure that web3 is a technology that will bring the transformation we need on a global scale, we should closely follow what its effects are and move forward collectively with learnings.
